The problem with having children less than two years apart is the feeling that you need to clone yourself and your significant other on a daily basis. All moms pick up tricks to help, even if her trick is having the other baby help raise the even younger baby. On one such occasion, I thought myself very clever when I asked Taylor, then 2, to go get me a toothbrush with water on it to help disctract a very fussy and very poopy Cornell, then 9 months old. She returned in speedy time and handed me the toothbrush without so much as a wink or snicker. Cornell hastily began gumming the toothbrush, but immediately started spitting and making horrible faces. When I asked Taylor what was the matter with the toothbrush, she shrugged and said in 2 year old speak..."I put soap on it for joke".
I am in awe of my own mother who had a 3 year old, 15 month old and newborn and not only remained sane, but never made us feel that she wasn't right there in the moment! Thank you, Mom.
