Humbling

Warning.... both of my sisters think the following description makes me sound stuck on myself, which of course I am! So, enjoy. I like to think of myself as a Superwoman. I work full time, create fun clubs, play alot, dote on my family, spend time with my friends, and try to find time to play volleyball and run.

Well, anyone who knows me knows that the last twenty years of my life have been plagued by back pain that comes and goes, with varying degrees of severity. During my most recent pregnancy, I had an especially bad time of it. I could no longer put my own socks on, or dress myself. Sweet 5 year old Taylor helped me into my undies every morning, which almost always reduced me to tears. Tears that I was so useless, and that my ability to do the most basic task was gone.

One morning, I had suffered the humiliation enough, and was determined to handle my morning routine by myself. With lots of tears and painful noises, I slowly got one leg, then the next into the correct holes of my undies. Feeling so proud of myself, I looked up and saw Taylor eyeing me like a new mom watching her baby take its first steps.

She squealed with delight when I pulled them all the way up, and clapped her hands. "Yeah, Mom, you put on your underpants all by yourself!"

i'm fairly certain Superwoman remembers when school picture day is and sends her child to school in clean clothes. especially since she makes the school calendar...
