So, I fully accept that I married an extremely driven man. Most women married to driven men drive Lexuses and shop all day, while stopping momentarily to dine on sushi and drink things that end in 'tini'. Most driven men are driven in two categories....making money and playing golf.
Not mine. Mine is driven in an entirely different direction. He is determined to be busy every minute of his life and never in a selfish or self serving way. If he is not running or training for a triathalon to benefit The Leukemia Society, he is championing the cause of reuniting families and nature. If you can't find him doing either of those two things, he is in the woods behind the school where he teaches, carving out an old outdoor classroom that was shut down almost 25 years ago after an infamous flood. And finally, if he isn't doing any of the above, he is no doubt rounding up our 3 children and through example and involvement, teaching them some philanthropic principle.
I appreciate and embrace all aspects of this life we have built together. A life where every goal is attainable. I adore that my children will grow up knowing that they can impact the world in a positive way, that they can move mountains, because their Papa showed them how. The only downside, other than having a calendar that would make a Fortune 500 executive faint, is that I would like to feel less guilt when I want to read a People magazine in the bath with a donut.
