The pressure was on Cornell today. He has been so lazy about posting at horseback (aka Cowboy Lessons) that he was about to be left behind as Taylor moved up to group lessons. The news of his shortcomings did not sit well with competetive Cornell. That child trotted and posted for 30 minutes straight today. Even when he was supposed to let Pepperoni walk, he made him trot. Poor Pepperoni was dripping sweat and looking like I feel after chasing Conway all day. After the lesson, Ms. Erin gave him the good news that he was indeed ready to move up to group! Hallelujah! She also told me a secret I could share with them later.
In the car on the way home, I told them the good news. Just after the new year, they will compete in their first horse show! Taylor beamed. Cornell yelled and told me that he was going to do this...(he imitated himself yanking back on the reins causing Pepperoni to rear back on just his back hooves). Shocked, I stuttered..."Umm, you are going to pop a wheelie on Pepperoni?" I told him that he could do that trick when he turned 15. He complained and said that "professionals" do that all the time. I argued that he was 6 and not a professional...yet. His face fell, and he reported, "Sure I am, that's what it means when you move up to group".
Look out next week Ms. Erin.
